Why it matters: Adds deployment and control options; a large model still does not run on every personal computer.

Recovering the October 29 announcement

Mistral releases the weights of an improved Large 4, previously in preview, focused on coding and cybersecurity. We are recovering this announcement from the preceding edition.

Open weights have conditions

Mistral offers downloads and self-hosting. Its modified license includes a specific condition for Model-as-a-Service businesses; read the license linked from the announcement before deciding on commercial use. Open weights do not mean unrestricted licensing.

What to check

Running it requires infrastructure planning and review of data, permissions and maintenance. We have not downloaded or evaluated the model. The circuit photograph illustrates computing requirements, not Mistral hardware or evidence of a model result.
